MBABANE-The Shin Kyokushin Kai Karate Association of Swaziland will be competing in a Durban Karate open tournament next weekend.

They will be returning an invitation following last Saturday’s open tournament which was held at Mayaluka hall. A team of 11 artists from South Africa were also competing in the tournament. According to the association secretary, Themba Dlamini, they needed about E100 000 to cater for the expenses for the South Africa team.

In Saturday’s tournament the Swazi artists were able to get many medals as they won against their South African competitors. The event was sponsored fully by Ubombo Sugar as they catered for accommodation and meals for the visitors and they gave out E4 500 for the medals and trophies. In the five categories in both the men’s and women’s section, SA got three gold medals.

“Saturday’s tournament was very successful, only three medals went to the South Africans and we would like to thank our sponsor for its success,” he said.
Dlamini said two Swazis, Linda Siyaya and Sipho Thwala got the awards for being the best fighters in the tournament.
