Churches led by ‘naughty’ pastors facing closure

MANZINI – Churches headed by wayward pastors and church leaders face closure.
This is if the Swaziland Conference of Churches (SCC) will be able to establish a regulatory body this year for all evangelicals and pentecostals in the country.

This was said by Bishop Steven Masilela, who is the SCC President, during a press conference yesterday at the Tum’s George hotel.
Bishop Masilela said the body would be able to handle issues of moral decay amongst pastors and church leaders in Swaziland.
He said the body would be able to mete out the necessary corrective measures before the whole name of the church was dragged in mud.

The SCC stated that they had been dealing with a lot of cases of wayward pastors and church leaders and at times they found that some were not affiliated anywhere, which made it difficult to action some of the cases.
It was also revealed that some people get into pastoring because of lack of employment and said many were Form Five failures.

Bishop Masilela stated that following the numerous reports by both electronic and print media, on allegations of moral decay among pastors and church leaders in this nation, they found it necessary for them to make a clear stand.
This is because they want to correct some perceptions that may have been created in the minds of many people and to put these allegations into perspective, especially the most recent report of a Manzini prominent pastor who is allegedly entangled in a love triangle that involves another man’s wife.

“The fact that this pastor was not named puts all pastors under the spotlight and it is part of that reason that we want to make our stand clear and voice our concerns over such matters,” Bishop Masilela said.
He then apologised to the Christians and the nation for any perceptions that may have been created by the actions and behaviour of the pastors.
