Local athletes mingle train with the best

MBABANE – Local athletes currently in the 2012 London Olympic Games are gearing up for the games by training with the top athletes of the world.

The trio of athletes Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, Phumlile Ndzinisa and swimmer Luke Hall will represent the country in the games which began on Friday.

The only swimmer representing the country in the games, Hall will be the first to compete tomorrow in the 50m freestyle heats and later on the day if he wins he will then try his luck in the semi-finals. The finals are slated for Friday evening.

Matsenjwa has the opportunity of training with 100m world record holder Jamaica’s Usain Bolt whom they are training with in preparation of the athlete’s competition on Friday. ‘Swazi Bolt’ had met others including Osafa Powell, Nester Carter, Yohan Blake and Great Britain soccer team captain Ryan Giggs.

Matsenjwa said all was well and they were getting ready for the games. He said training with the stars helped them immensely as they were learning a lot from them. He said he was confident that his performance would improve.

Matsenjwa who will compete only in 200m will compete on August 7 in the first round and the semi-finals are scheduled for the following day if he qualifies. The finals will be staged on August 9.

Ndzinisa will compete in 400m on Friday in the first round while the semi-finals are slated for Saturday with the finals on Sunday.
