Ezulwini Sun Hotel closes
EZULWINI - The country’s tourism and leisure industry has been dealt a huge blow following the official closure of Ezulwini Sun Hotel on Saturday.
The hotel which is under the Sun International Group is situated across the road from the Royal Swazi Sun and Lugogo Sun.
One of the reasons that led to the hotel closing shop, according to the manage- ment, is that Swazi Spa Holdings Board of Directors were not happy with its low occupancy.
When a visit was paid to the hotel yesterday, some of the former employees were found on the premises.
At the entrance a new board with a notice informing customers of the closure of the hotel had been mounted.
There was no one at the reception and all the rooms were reported to be unoccupied.
In an interview, some of the former employees confirmed that the hotel officially ceased operations on Saturday.
They said some of them had been transferred to work at neighbouring hotels.
One of the employees, who preferred anonymity, said he had been transferred to work in the neigbouring hotel, but was not sure what would happen to the other employees.
"Our last day at work was on Saturday and today (yesterday) we are just taking a few things, otherwise the hotel is no longer operating," he said,
Another reason that fuelled the closure according to earlier reports by the management was the expiry of a contract which dedicated 50 per cent of the hotel to the Sun International Vacation Club.
The management was also quoted in the local newspapers as saying the 15-year contract which came into existence in 1997 elapsed at the end of April this year.
