MANZINI – The Correctional Services lost two members in the horror crash in South Africa that claimed the lives of four Swazis.

On Saturday, a kombi ferrying women who had gone shopping in South Africa overturned about 20 kilometres away from the Swazi border. Two of the women died on the spot whilst the others passed away in hospital.
Correctional Services Public Relations Officer Nomkhosi Maseko confirmed that Nkosingiphile and Makhosazana, both Mdluli, died in the horror accident.

Asked if the women were related, Maseko said they were not sisters, but shared the same surname.
“They were both working at the headquarters in Mbabane. Makhosazana was with the accounts department whilst Nkosingiphile was stationed at the reception,” Maseko said.

Sad

She added that the women had been with the force for less than five years, adding that it was sad that they have been taken away so soon.
In the history of the Correctional Services, Maseko said it was the first time to lose two members at the same time.
“The Commissioner is at pain about the demise of the women.

“We would like to send our condolences to their families, relatives, colleagues and friends. We pray that the Almighty will be with them in this dark hour,” Maseko said.
Meanwhile, a relative to one of the other two women when called last night asked that the deceased’s name be not published for now because some family members had not been notified.

Bodies

Secretary General of the Interstate Kombi Association Ncedi Magagula said the bodies of the deceased would be brought into Swaziland today.
“We are currently waiting for doctors to conduct a postmortem, which we hope would be finished by tomorrow (today) mid-day,” Magagula said.

On the allegations that the kombi was overloaded, Magagula said he would not comment, stating that the police were investigating the matter.
