LOZITHA – A decom-posed body of a young woman, suspected to have committed suicide was yesterday retrieved from the Lusushwana River, adjacent to the royal residence.

The unknown woman, estimated to be between 25-30 years old was found by two herdboys who were attending to their family cattle.

It is suspected that the woman had committing suicide as a grass weaved rope attached to an electric cable was found dangling from the tree next to which the woman’s body was found.

Her body also had a stretch mark on her neck.

possibility

Members of the police Scenes of Crime Unit said they could not ignore the possibility of suicide but said they still had to carry out intensive investigations on what the cause of death was.

The corpse was found by 19-year-old Muzi Mavuso and 17-year-old Sifiso Shongwe both from the nearby Ngonini area who raised an alarm with a group of guava vendors along the Mbabane- Manzini highway.

"I was the first one to see the body floating on the river and I called Muzi to come and witness what I had discovered," Sifiso said.

He added: "I was so scared I didn’t know what to do thus we ran to the highway where we alerted the women about our discovery and they quickly called the police."

When the Times team arrived at the scene the body was still floating face down and had been blocked from moving downstream by a wild berry tree that lay across the stream.

The woman was wearing a black skirt, a multi coloured t-shirt and had no shoes on.

It is suspected that her body could have been in the river for over a week judging from its decomposition state and the unbearable stench that filled the air. Residents said they drink and bathe in the same Lusushwana River where the body was found.

"We do carry our own water when we come to sell guavas along the highway but they normally run out leaving us with no option but to drink from the river," one of the vendors said.
