MBABANE – A group of herdboys watched helplessly as a man allegedly attacked and sodomised one of their peers in the fields.

The Grade Four pupil (10) was allegedly threatened with death together with the other boys if they screamed for help or later told anyone of the shock incident.

Sodomy is one of the rare forms of sexual abuse in the country and normally occurs to vulnerable young boys according to statistics from organisations dealing with such abuse cases.

The name of the pupil will not be published because he is a minor and a survivor of abuse.

Already police have arrested a 19-year-old man of LaMgabhi area who is alleged to be the one who sodomised the pupil.

Arrested

Xolani Dlamini was arrested over the past weekend by the Lobamba police and was charged with sodomy, he is alleged to have committed two weeks ago.

It was said the pupil like in other days went to collect his father’s cattle from the grazing land as he was from school. Just before he could return home, it is alleged that Dlamini ordered the pupil to pull down his pants and thereafter allegedly sodomised him while other herdboys watched helplessly

Dlamini allegedly threatened the boy with death.

In fear, the pupil is said to have not reported the matter when he reached home.

Had it not been for a fever that caught the survivor no one would have known of the incident.

The pupil is said to have caught a serious fever which resulted in his grandmother taking him to hospital.

However, before he could be taken to hospital, his grandmother decided to conduct enema (kucatseka) on him.

It was during that process that she discovered that her grandson had been injured.

It is then that the pupil told his grandmother the whole story. Police were thereafter informed and investigations began which resulted in the arrest of Xolani Dlamini who has already appeared before court.

Dlamini made his first appearance at the Mbabane Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Sabelo Mngomezulu.

He made a bail application immediately he entered the dock. His application was not objected.

Mngomezulu said Dlamini’s bail would be fixed at E500. He was warned not to interfere with crown witnesses and further to not commit a similar offence while out of custody. By the time of compiling this report, it could not be gathered if he had paid the bail or not.
