MANZINI – It has been revealed, the E6.2 million suspect who was arrested on Sunday in South Africa was living a luxurious life.

Shisizwe ‘Shisa’ Kunene who has been on the run together with Senzo Motsa was arrested while gambling in a Midrand casino by the South African police.

It would appear Kunene did not have the slightest idea that the local police had sent all the E6.2 million suspects’ photos to the International Police (Interpol) and the Southern African Regional Police Chief Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) to help in apprehending them.

Cameras

He is said to have been seated at one of the betting tables when the security cameras spotted him and the police were notified and they arrived promptly.

He was then taken to his hotel room where he is said to have been found with large amounts of money with an unknown currency.

While going about his business in the country, Kunene is alleged to have changed his identity and was known as a Nkabindze.

Kunene’s name was handed over to Interpol after the armed robbery that took place at the Pigg’s Peak police station in October last year.

During the robbery E6.2 million, E5.8 million of which was meant for the elderly grants, was stolen.

Kunene and his friends allegedly attacked police officers who were on duty at the station and dashed off with the money.

Kunene was once a casino croupier at Royal Swazi Sun.

He was described as a quiet person and his mother expressed shock when police published his pictures as one of the suspects late last year.

Arrested

Police Public Relations Officer Vusi Masuku said following that one suspect has been arrested in a foreign country, the country’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has already been roped in to extradite him back to Swaziland.

Kunene’s arrest makes him the second suspect to be jailed for the infamous robbery after another handed himself over to the police late last year and is currently out on bail.

Masuku also appealed to the public to contact the confidential police line 404 6373 if they have any further information on the other suspect.
