MBABANE- The year 2008 almost ended tragically for a Msibi family.

This was when the head of the family drank poison, mistaking it for traditional brew.

Mgcineni Msibi (50) of Tsawela in Mankayane bought traditional brew and poured it into a container similar to the one which had weedkiller.

According to Gogo Thwala, who is Msibi’s sister-in-law, he came from a drinking spot carrying his brew and entered the house.

He then decided to go out for a couple of minutes and upon his return, could not recognise which of the containers had his brew.

This was when he mistak-enly drank the bladex (a solution used to destroy weed in the fields).

Msibi is alleged to have screamed for help and one Senzo Msibi came to his rescue and took him to Mankayane Government Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.

Senzo declined to comment, only saying he only took Msibi to hospital and knew nothing about the incident.

Msibi’s wife, identified as LaMndzebele, also said she did not know much about the incident.

She said doctors thanked them for bringing Msibi to the hospital on time before the poison had damaged his intestines.

Doctors were able to drain the poisonous substance out of Msibi’s body.

"He was given tablets and a drip but he is here at home now," she said.
