MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) midfielder Kasongo Beya has been given a written warning and will appear before the club Disciplinary Committee after he allegedly went to camp in a questionable state of sobriety a fortnight ago.

Highlanders were preparing for the MTN league clash against Moneni Pirates, which they won 1-0 courtesy of a Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Dlamini second half penalty. Sources close to the matter told this publication that the midfielder arrived in camp in a questionable state of sobriety and was reprimanded by the club officials for his misconduct.

Questionable

It was gathered that it was his teammates who blew the whistle on him, drawing the attention of the club officials who had a ‘serious chat’ with him afterwards.

A warning letter was handed to him last week and he is expected to appear before the club Disciplinary Committee before the end of the week. Already, insiders at the club have told the Times Sports Desk that he is on his way out.

"Making matters worse for his case is that we have already signed a Tanzanian striker, Mohammed Mwende and maintaining so many foreigners is not possible, so he is highly likely to go.

His misconduct has not helped matters," our source within the club Management Committee said. Two players who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the Beya camp incident when reached for comment.

Misconduct

"He was taken to task for his misconduct by the club officials," one of the players said. Notably, he did not play any part in the game against Moneni Pirates as national under-20 midfielder Bonginkosi Gamedze was preferred.

Highlanders have kept a tight lid on the issue as they are dealing with it internally.

Highlanders’ manager, Mbongiseni ‘Mthofi’ Khumalo said: "Yes, I heard about it and so far, no action has been taken except that he was warned about it and his unsatisfactory performance," he said.

Besides, Beya, the club has also written warning letters to two other foreigners, Zimbabwean goalkeeper, Ndodana Sibanda and Congolese defender, TonTon Yengoli, who have been told in no uncertain terms that they need to improve their performances.

Pull

"The club expects more from a foreign player and they have been told to pull up their socks," our source added.

The acquisition of the Tanzanian striker Mohammed Mwende from XI Men has taken the number of the foreign contingent at the ‘Black Bull’ ‘kraal’ to maximum seven.

The six other players are namely, Beya, Zondai Nyaungwa, Ndodana Sibanda, Mbaya Katala, Samkelo Mhlanga and the defender Tonton Yengoli. The club’s Board of Directors’ chairman Senator Ngom’uyayona Gamedze declined to comment on the matter referring enquiries to Management Committee chairman, Musa Masuku.

Masuku confirmed the case last night and said they will be taking stern action against the Congolese midfielder.
