MBABANE –It was business unusual at Quartermain’s Pub and Restaurant yesterday as some waitresses boycotted work in protest over grievances with management.

The waitresses, some employed as casual workers sat outside for the better part of the day in protest of what they claimed was day-light robbery from their employer. Today is set to be their last day at work as the restaurant ceases to operate.

spacious

Three weeks back, management of the spacious restaurant announced that they will cease to operate at the end of August.

"We want answers from our bosses with regards to our pay-outs and jobs. We are not serving any customers until our concerns are addressed," said one employee. "No one has given an explanation on why our services were being terminated and how they came up with the pay-outs. We want the labour department to intervene," added another.

The company’s lawyer Musa Nsibandze said; "The employees will be paid their dues tomorrow (today) and this will be done according to the country’s labour laws. Quartermain’s trust is not continuing with business and anyone brought in to work is only on temporary basis to allow smooth closure of the business".

accordance

In court papers filed by Sparks, he stated that all employees would be paid their statutory benefits in accordance with the law. He also stated in the letter that the landlord had informed them that the portion of the building occupied by Quartermain’s restaurant would be renovated therefore it would cease to operate.
