MANZINI - Mr Swaziland, Okwakhe Dlamini is currently working on starting an ‘Ex-Beauty Queens and Kings Association’.

Dlamini revealed this during a press meeting on Thursday afternoon at The Tums George Hotel in Manzini. Dlamini said: “I have sat down and thought long and hard. I have come to a conclusion that all our former beauty kings and queens need an association that will, among other things assist them with their charity work and help them acquire sponsors. My main objective is to help the Mr and Miss Swaziland pageants to be effective and to assist them as youth ambassadors and role models.”

Reason

He further added that some of the beauty queens and kings are unable to complete their charity work within the year they are given to reign. He said for this reason, he was starting an association that would also help solicit funds for the consistency of charity projects. He made an example of his ‘Okwakhe Fund’ in which he paid school fees for students in Forms I to IV.  Dlamini added that most beauty kings and queens were forgotten after their reigns and he had a wish to change that.

“The association will help ex-beauty queens and kings either go back to school themselves or help them with finding employment. We will also have an advisory board which will be responsible for the daily work of title holders. It will also help acquire sponsors and deal with challenges constructively. It would be a great idea to involve local business people in this initiative as well and I am hoping that they will be willing to assist as I think they are influential. I have experience with these pageants and I do not want the next person to suffer the same way I and other title holders did. All this will be done to improve the pageant,” he explained.

Dlamini said he had also roped in his friends, Mr USA, England and South Africa whom he met whilst at the Mr World contest in Korea this year.
Asked on the fate of his reign Dlamini said he was still waiting for the framework to be released. “I am happy for Nompilo (ex-Miss Swaziland) and her princesses though,” he concluded.
The Miss Swaziland trio’s reign ended on Sunday.

This is something very positive and it shows great maturity in the young man. Nothing should be taken away from his brilliant idea and I’m supportive through and through.

ITS SUCH A GOOD IDEA WHICH WILL SOMEHOW ENCOURAGE OUR TEENS TO JOIN THE PAGEANT BECAUSE SOMEHOW MOST OF THEM NORMALLY FEAR FOR THE AFTERWARD RESULTS AS YOU WILL BE FORGOTTEN THAT YOU WERE ONCE THE AMBASSADOR OF THE COUNTRY I FULLY SUPPORT THE IDEA AND HOPE IT WILL BE SUCCESSEFUL
