MANZINI - Former Miss Swaziland Second Princess Antoinette du Pont is the new Public Relations Officer of the Swaziland Beauty Pageants Association (SBPA), otherwise known as Ligcabho Lebuhle Eswatini.

Du Pont is not only a former beauty queen, but is also wife to businessman Tum Du Pont and mother to local South African based actress, Amanda du Pont.

The members of the association were chosen at the Beauty Pageants framework meeting which took place yesterday at the Tum’s George Hotel in Manzini where stakeholders had gathered to make submissions.

Interestingly, du Pont was also part of the Miss Swaziland probe team which investigated irregularities in the way beauty pageants are run in the country.

It was a recommendation from the same probe that led to the drafting of the so framework.

Expected

The chairman of the new committee is Sizwe Ndlela, who is the director of the Miss Deaf Pageant. Miss Cultural Heritage Director, Sifiso ‘Tallica’ Xaba, is his vice chairman while ex-Miss Swaziland Pile Dlamini was chosen as the committee’s secretary.

Mbali Manana is the Treasurer while Miss Swaziland licence holder, Vinah Mamba-Gray, is a member together with Mr Swaziland’s Winwar du Pont.

The committee’s duty will be to handle all issues pertaining to beauty contests in the country and is expected to formulate documents that will govern such issues.

The Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture CEO, Stanley Dlamini mentioned that the choosing of the Committee is a sign that a new page has been opened to make sure that everything goes right in the hosting of local beauty contests.

At the same event, it was discussed that the name of the committee should be changed in order to embrace things such as arts and modelling, instead of focusing on beauty pageants.

Vinah Mamba said the fact that everyone will now be represented is a good thing but mentioned that she is hoping that this time it will work, unlike when a committee like this was chosen a few years ago.
