MATSAPHA- One of the bidders went home a happy man after he bought a three-piece lounge suite valued at E10 000 for only E6 200.

This was during an auction on Saturday for stock either found with defects or has been kept in storage for a long time.

The auctioned stock belonged to Bradlows.

The three-piece Bronco lounge suite consists of two two-seater couches and one chair and is of exclusive high quality fabric with a leather look trim.

In the Bradlows catalogue of May 24 to June 15, 2010, this three-piece lounge suite is priced at E8 999, after a reduction of E1 000, meaning its normal price was E 9 999.

This could be viewed as a bargain however, one also has to take into consideration that these items on sale were either stock that has been found with defects or have been kept in storage for a long time so there are possibilities that the value could have depreciated.

The auction conducted by Sandile Dlamini was held at the Matsapha industrial area.

The sale began at 11am and some of the stock that was on sale included entertainment units, double and queen-sized beds, washing machines, kitchen units and TV sets among other items.

Bradlows Regional Manager Skhumbuzo Dlamini said they normally sell stock that has been found with defects or that has been kept in storage for a long time because it would be expensive for them to send it back to South Africa.

"We are selling damaged stock or stock that has been found with defects or has been kept in storage for a long time.

We sell the items every now and then because we find it quite expensive to take it back to South Africa," Dlamini said.

After successfully managing to out-bid another prospective buyer who had their eyes set on the three-piece lounge suite, the bidder, who preferred not to be named said; "It is a good buy because when you go to the shop, you will find that the same lounge suite is valued at E15 000. I am happy with my purchase and I believe that if the lounge-suite was old, it would be obvious to the naked eye but as you can see, it is new."

: Drug shortages
In view of the drug shortages in public hospitals, do you think it is the Ministry of Health's budgeting or corruption that is adding fuel to the crisis?
