MBABANE – Classes were temporarily disturbed at St Marks High School when pupils went hysterical, claiming to be seeing snakes and ferocious animals.
Most affected were girls in Form I W. Pupils said chaos started at the morning assembly when a girl shouted ‘Jesus’ three times.
“She then ran amok and headed for the fence. We took after her and found her already climbing the fence. We caught her and brought her back to the school hall where we prayed for her until the hysteria subsided,” said Mzwandile Ndlangamandla a member of the Scripture Union.
This was just the beginning of the chaos at the school. Other pupils started screaming within the Form I W class and some attempted to bolt out of class but were stopped by classmates.
They were all taken to the school hall where they were prayed for and later released. Within the hall, members of the Scripture Union were the busiest, casting evil spirits out of the girls, whilst speaking in tongues.
Some Christian teachers were also there to supervise the praying and warned curious pupils who were not born again to stay away because the spirits may jump into them. The deputy school principal Julius Dlamini was in utter confusion, without a clue about the solution. He said parents of the affected pupils had been called to come and collect them.
“We do not know what caused this. All we had to do is ensure parents know about it,” he said. Seventh Day Adventist’s Evangelist Joseph Mudzingwa said the pupils were affected by demonic spirits. “I Corinthians 11 verse 19 states that such spirits will be there so that the power of God can be revealed. The only way out is prayer and handing the situation over to God.”
Our duty is to pray. Perhaps we as pastors also err by claiming to have the power to cast out such demons when in fact it’s all by the grace of God,” he said.
