MBABANE – The new Natio-nal Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Technical Director expected to take over the position in the New Year will take home a salary of E25 000 a month on a two-year renewable contract, the Swazi News Sports Desk has gathered.
The incumbent to take over from Obed ‘Foreman’ Mlotsa, who has been acting on the position since Myengwa Sibandze cut ties with the football mother body, is expected to start his duties from January 1 2010.
The NFAS, according to an informed source within the FA Board, has set aside E25 000 as salary amongst other perks which include a car and housing allowance.
“It’s a relatively attractive package but depending on the qualifications or credentials of those who will apply, the FA is ready to offer a much higher package in terms of salary than the first offer,” our source said.
NFAS Chief Executive Offi-cer (CEO) Frederick Mngom-ezulu confirmed that an advert will be run in the local media next week for the position of Technical Director but declined to reveal the salary offer.
“We have looked at the structure and set out some requirements but the salary is subject for the interview for those who will apply. In an interview, you are normally asked what you would expect to earn and then we reveal our offer and take it from there,” Mngomezulu explained.
Asked where the money to cover the costs of hiring the Technical Director will be sourced from, Mngomezulu said the FA will foot the bill.
“The position was there before and the incumbent was paid by the FA. Nothing will change,” Mngomezulu said.
Earlier the German Football Federation had shown interest in offering Swaziland a Technical Director, whom they were going to pay but apparently the man they offered, Figge proved not to be not good enough in the eyes of the local football mother body because of his past failures in Ethiopia, where he was fired. Interestingly, the FA will hire a new Technical Director when they have not tied up their legal battles with the erstwhile former Tech-nical director, Myengwa Siba-ndze, who left the association in 2005.
