NHLANGANO-Evelyn Baring High School had for the past few years lacked focus and direction.
This was disclosed by businessman Reuben Dl-amini, who was a guest sp-eaker during the speech and prize-giving day held the school on Saturday.
Dlamini, the school’s former pupil, boldly told the gathering focus, direction and vision were lacking at the school, hence there was the inability of the school to perform to its best despite potential due to the lack of determination, resulting from poor quality leaders-hip.
“We believe for some time the school was without foc-us, direction and vision,” said Dlamini.
He said it was also unfort-unate that the absence of the above mentioned fact-ors not only lowered the morale of the teaching staff but also led to the recent poor results which greatly affected the status of the school. Dlamini minced no words and said their hope of transforming the school back to its position solely rested with the new leadership under Acting Principal Tom Dlamini.
He said he was impressed with his vision, plans, object-ives as well as targets. He thanked the academic staff with regards to creating an enabling environment for the pupils despite the bad publicity the school had been receiving lately.
He further praised the new school committee, led by Thulasizwe Msibi and said he was hopeful that with his management expertise, readi-ness to come up with sound and principled guidelines and policies, there was no way Evelyn Baring High School will fail to be again the epitome of the south within the education arena.
“Don’t waste time, be clear about your vision, determinat-ion and remain focused because success is never impossible,” said Dlamini. The event was attended by teachers, parents and pupils.
Teachers urged to lead by example
NHLANGANO-For a school to be succe-ssful, key stakeholders ought to be disciplined, responsible and effect-ively execute their duties.
This was observed by Evelyn Baring High School acting Principal Tom Dlamini during the school’s speech and prize-giving day held on Saturday at the school hall.
Dlamini making his remarks said the key players (stakeholders) in any given learning institution (school) ought to be disciplined for purposes of realizing success for that particular school and the key role players must always have the eagerness of working cooperatively as a team.
responsibilities
The key stakeholders according to Dlamini are learners (pupils), teachers and parents and they should effectively conduct their duties and responsibilities with-out being forced and monitored. According to Dlamini, it was paramount learners always came to school, attend classes and do assignments given by teachers or parents.
Dlamini then reminded the pupils that a learner was always governed by school and home rules and encouraged them to always find meanings in the set of rules for them to be self driven, focused, hardworking as well as responsible.
“Have a healthy relationship with teachers, your colleagues and have the right qualities of being an upright child,” said Dlamini.
Teachers, according to Dlam-ini, should be disciplined and highly sensitive to the needs of any pupil; academically, socially and personally.
“Treat pupils with care, love and respect because they deserve it and maintain the highest professionalism at all times,” he said.
