Times Of Swaziland: SA ORLANDO PIRATES’ SENZO MEYIWA SHOT DEAD SA ORLANDO PIRATES’ SENZO MEYIWA SHOT DEAD ================================================================================ BY LWAZI DLAMINI on 27/10/2014 09:00:00 Sports Editor MBABANE – Barely 24 hours after guiding South Africa’s Orlando Pirates to a 4-1 win over Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night, first choice goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has been shot dead. Details of the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper’s shocking death last night were still sketchy but reports from various on-line media indicate he was in the company of unnamed son of top musician Chicco Thwala at the time of his death. According to a report carried by SoccerLaduma website, Meyiwa died from gunshot wounds but details of the incident were unclear at the time of compiling this report. “It has been confirmed to the Siya crew that Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa has died after being shot. Meyiwa was in action just last night as Pirates defeated Ajax Cape Town 4-1 at Orlando Stadium,” part of the report reads. South African Football Association (SAFA) Spokesperson Dominic Chimhavi also confirmed the sudden and tragic passing away of the Bafana Bafana captain. Meyiwa (27) has been a star for Bafana Bafana of late, and in the four Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2015 qualifiers played to date, he was yet to concede a goal and captained the team. Meyiwa was a member of the Double-Treble winning Orlando Pirates side in the season 2010-11, 2011-2012. He was recently handed the captain’s armband at the ‘Soweto Buccaneers’, taking over from towering defender Siyabonga Sangweni after his sterling performances in the national team Bafana Bafana.
