MBABANE – New Sihlangu coach Valere Billen is driving a brand new Chevrolet
Cruz, courtesy of the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS).
The car is worth about E250 000.
Billen could not be reached for comment on his new set of wheels. However, the
NFAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu confirmed the latest
development.
"We do hope the car will enable him to carry out his duties efficiently. It will
make his travelling much easier as his job requires him to travel to the
different stadia to watch the players in action.
"Moreover, it is enshrined in our contract with him that among other obligations
the Football Association should meet is ensuring that the coach is accommodated
and also has transport to use for his day to day affairs while still engaged as
a national team coach," he disclosed.
Billen has had mixed fortunes since assuming the squad’s hot seat left vacant
by South African mentor, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba. The latter had also
received a Toyota Hilux double cab worth about E260 000 which was, however,
stolen in Johannesburg.
In his first game in charge Sihlangu lost 1-2 away to Lesotho but made amended
winning the next game in that country 1-0.
In the return game, which was played at the Mavuso Sports Centre, the local boys
fired blanks to eventually settle for a barren stalemate. That result triggered
a lot of criticism from a section of the football fraternity, which felt
Sihlangu could have done better.
The squad used the two international preparatory games to gear up for next
year’s CHAN Cup game against Angola, which will be played sometime in June.
