Municipalities from Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, South Africa and Swaziland all converged at the Mavuso Sports centre to witness the official opening of the games by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini. SAIMSA President, David Sono heaped praises on the country saying it had grown immensely since they last hosted the games in 2005. "The difference between now and then is that the organi-sation of the games is of the highest standard and the country’s facilities have improved. They are outstanding," he said. He said more municipalities were still to grace the games and they would be a part of the competition when the games kicked-off. The games are scheduled to kick-off today and the municipalities are expected to compete in over 10 sporting codes. Minister Lindiwe said the games had remained true to their ethos of helping and supporting municipal employees to work at living a healthy and active lifestyle and to create friendships across municipal and border lines. "As municipalities gathered here we are united by our common love for sports, and may we remember as we play to make new friends and to dare support and cheer on others than ourselves," she said.
