Times Of Swaziland: SWIMLAB SWIMMERS WHIRL TO GOLD SWIMLAB SWIMMERS WHIRL TO GOLD ================================================================================ Pholisile Hlophe on 06/12/2022 07:44:00 MBABANE – Swimlab Swimming Club collected a total of 25 medals from the Mpumalanga Swimming Championships held over the past weekend in Nelspruit, South Africa. Luca Frazer took home seven gold medals out of 11, making him the best performing among the visiting swimmers. The 12-year-old swimmer was also awarded with a trophy in honour of his excellent performance. The local squad also comprised of two swimmers in Chadd Ning and Tayne Ning, who travelled from Mauritius to compete in the championships. Chadd won two gold medals and one silver while Tayne brought home two silver. The trip was sponsored by Viva Water. In total, Swimlab won 10 silver medals plus four bronze. Swimlab Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi congratulated the team for the splendid performance, as well as the support from Viva Water and the parents who supported the team. Historic Nhlabatsi said this was a historic achievement, as it was the first time for them to win so many medals. “My swimmers outdid themselves at Mpumalanga Swimming Championships. They swam like champions. We saw new swimmers in the club like Kendra McNamara getting medals. It was the fighting spirit for me. We had a balanced team. I decided to take my eight-year-old boys to swim at the bigger pool. They fought even though they did not win medals. “I’m so proud of them; the future is bright,” he said. Nhlabatsi shared that the seniors, who included Simanga and Raya would be flying out on Thursday to Melbourne, Australia, for the World Championships. “ For the first time we had a relay team of boys 11 to 14 years and they did not disappoint since they got silver. Congratulations to Luca Fraser for being the best visiting swimmer of the competition. The support from the parents was out of this world.“This is what makes us different from other clubs; it’s the parents’ support. When we attend such competitions, we do not get a bus for the team but allow parents to travel with their children. A big thank you to Viva Water, who sponsored the team with water throughout the competition. What a good way to end the year.” The championships started on Friday and ended on Sunday.
