MBABANE – Zombodze Magagula, the former President (and current Honorary
President) of Eswatini Olympic Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA), will be
inducted into the Region 5 Hall of Fame.
This was revealed by EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele yesterday.
He said Magagula would be inducted on December 2, 2022, during the Region 5
Youth Games Opening Ceremony in Malawi. “Reference is made to my letter dated
December 8, 2020 where I was informing you of your induction into the Region 5
Sports Hall of Fame. The Sports Hall of Fame recipients will be recognised
during the Games opening ceremony in Malawi. Once again, we congratulate you for
your lasting legacy in sport on behalf of our region,” read a part of the
letter which was copied to Magagula by African Union Sports Council Region 5 CEO
Stanley Mutoya.
“This is a great honor for the country. As EOCGA, we would like to
congratulate Mr Magagula for this prestigious recognition, for the effort and
dedication he has channeled towards the development of sport in the country and
the region as a whole,” said Jele. He said they were also grateful to the
Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) for submitting his name. “We are
humbled for the decision that Region 5 has reached.
Motivated
“As servants and leaders in the sports industry, this development keeps others
motivated and re-energised to emulate Mr Magagula’s legacy. We are proud to
continue working with him within the EOCGA structures and look forward to his
continued guidance and advice,” he said. Jele noted that this came hardly
within a few months of Pearl Dlamini (EOCGA Board member) being elected into the
Board of Directors of IBA. “The stars are shinning on Eswatini and we should
honour these recognitions. “This is proof of the ability and talent that the
country possesses in sport leadership. We are confident that this will rub off
positively onto the performance of our athletes internationally,” he said.
Magagula said it was flattering to get the honour of being inducted into the
Region 5 Sports Hall of Fame. “I am grateful to the sportsmen and women who
support sport and for their support for me during my involvement in sport. I am
not regularly involved in sport as much. I left it in the capable hands of
younger and more vibrant minds. EOCGA is in the capable hands of seasoned
Administrator Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa who mentored me and his younger,
energetic and vibrant confederates,” he said. Eswatini is among the member
countries for African Union Sports Council Region V. Other countries include
Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and
Zimbabwe.
