MBABANE – It has not been a bright start for team Eswatini in the ongoing 44th
Chess Olympiad.
The games which are held in Chennai, India, started last Friday and end next
Tuesday. It has reached the half mark with six games played so far.  Team
Eswatini open section has accumulated 1.5/6 games points. This was after they
won against Saint Kitts and Nevis (4-0) and drew against Guam (2-2). The losses
were against Venezuela, Kuwait, Ghana and Suriname.
The ladies recorded two victories against Burundi and Gambia and lost to
Malaysia, Uganda, Andorra and Mozambique.
Reached for comment, William Siame, the captain said they had challenges during
their departure. “We had challenges before departure and three players missed
the flight and we did not participate in the first two rounds. Thursday (today)
is rest day and the games will continue on Friday (tomorrow),” said Siame. He
said they missed valuable points in the first two games because they were short
of players.“I believe we will perform better in the remaining games,” he
said.
