MBABANE – It is a derby not worth missing.
The Mavuso Sports Emporium will be a hive of activity on Saturday, as it plays
hosts to local volleyball giants Correctional Sunrise and Royal Eswatini Police
Service (REPS) male and female teams, who will go neck-to-neck in a battle for
the championship title. The ladies match is at noon, and the male teams are set
to lock horns at 2pm. The event marks the end of the Eswatini National
Volleyball (ENVA) tournament for the B-division teams. Sparks fly whenever these
two sides clash in both the elite and the B-division. The bronze medal battle
will pit in Bob Masters and Mhlume Masters in the opening match slated for 10am.
The tournament was made possible by the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games
Association (EOCGA), through a generous E20 000 sponsorship announced by EOCGA
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Maxwell Jele last month. ENVA benefited from the
E120 000 windfall distributed equally to six associations that had been inactive
due to the lack of sponsorship to host tournaments. ENVA General Secretary (SG)
Afi Dlamini, assured spectators of an epic event and further thanked EOCGA for
the sponsorship. In light of the gradually increasing COVID-19 cases, Dlamini
appealed to spectators and teams to observe the safety precautionary measures
put in place.
Dignitaries
“We are looking forward to having heated finals and we are still waiting for
our dignitaries’ responses, as we have sent our invitations to the Minister of
Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Madze Bulunga, EOCGA and the sponsors
who have been with us through the years including The XChange,” Dlamini said.
On top of the team prizes, outstanding payers will be awarded, as there will be
prizes for the most valuable player, best blocker, best server and best
attacker.
