Times Of Swaziland: UNUSED FORCES PLAYERS MUST BE SIGNED FOR FREE – KENNY UNUSED FORCES PLAYERS MUST BE SIGNED FOR FREE – KENNY ================================================================================ BY LWAZI DLAMINI on 11/11/2021 08:33:00 MBABANE – “There is a need to balance the quota of players who can be signed, to keep the standard competitive. Players who are not being used have to be given a chance to play for other teams free of charge.” This is a suggestion by former Manzini Wanderers player Ronny Kenny on how to keep the playing field level with regard to the contentious issue of the dominance of the security forces teams. The security forces teams’ unfair advantage over their civilian counterparts has been debated for over ten years with soccer fans in recent times calling for the boycott of Royal Leopard, Young Buffaloes and Green Mamba. Other than Mbabane Swallows, the security forces teams have been taking turns among themselves in winning the MTN league title in the last decade. Kenny, who now owns an Academy named FC South Kings in South Africa, said the dominance of the security forces teams had allegedly killed Eswatini football. “I do not support the view of the balance of security forces teams. I believe this has somehow killed our football. From the days I played soccer, their dominance with the promise of employment killed the game. How many good players have they signed and failed to manage? How many have lost their way in football?” he quipped. Kenny said the fact that the security forces teams utilised government resources unlike other teams simple meant they had an unfair advantage over other civilian teams. Asked on reports which once linked him with taking over at his former club Manzini Wanderers, Kenny said he could assist when invited. “I still believe there is a bigger role one can play as Wanderers is an institution, and only we can take it back to its glory days. It is sad that this is what is happening to the once mighty ‘Weseli’ and it painful for me to watch our beloved team encountering such endless problems. As a team, they need stability with a solid structure of people who not only know the game, but have the teams interests at heart,” he added.
