This was disclosed by Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini yesterday at the city council’s premises. The race, which is divided into three categories, will be held on November 28 at Prince of Wales Sports Ground. The three races, the 21km, 10km and 5km will start at 6am. Only 500 participants will be allowed to take part in the race. All three races will start and finish at the capital city-based sports ground. Fitness enthusiasts will also sweat it out during a boot camp which will start at 7am. “We are happy to announce our partnership with the Mbabane City Council. It has been a tough year since we hosted an event like this because of COVID-19. We felt the city council’s event aligned with our mission which is to promote exercising,” Dlamini said. He said it was a perfect time to host the race now that the COVID-19 cases have significantly declined. “We want to thank the Mbabane City Council for initiating this idea and we hope it will attract more runners to participate. We are aware some athletes have been hungry for such races, this is their time to shine,” Dlamini said. He went on to thank Eswatini Mobile for supporting the event. “Eswatini Mobile has proven that they are a network for the people and they deserve our support. We also appeal for support from other potential sponsors,” he said. Dlamini also appealed to any organisations who wished to host events to contact them so that they endorse those events. registration Meanwhile, AE Secretary Thoba Mazibuko explained that the registration, which has already been opened, was free. “Athletes can register at Mbabane.org.sz; it will be wise to register early because we will be allowing only 500 people. We will have eight water points and for more details about the race which will be posted on our social media pages,” Mazibuko said. He went on to explain the route of the three races. “The main race will start at the sports ground, go straight to Pine Valley, Sifundzani High, Mbadzeni Street, Mantjolo Road, then go via the traffic circle by Cobonga. It will then proceed to Prison, Mbabane Central then turn to Checkers and go straight to Hilltop. “At Hilltop, they will then make a U-turn and head to Eswatini Electricity Company (ECC) and, turn toward to the Mbabane Clinic then cross the bridge at Checkers, take the Gwamile street and finally Mbovane street back to the Prince of Wales. “The 10km run will head to Sifundzani High, Pine Valley, head to Woodlands then Mbangweni Street and head back to Mbovane Street back to the winning point.
