‘BACK TO STADIUMS’ VACCINE CAMPAIGN IN SITEKI

MBABANE – The beat goes on.
Siteki in the Lubombo Region is the next stop for the ‘Back to stadiums
COVID-19 vaccination campaign’. The campaign is hosted by the Premier League
of Eswatini (PLE), Eswatini Football Association (EFA), National Supporters
Committee (NSC)/ Super fans in conjunction with the Ministry of health. The
campaign is aimed at encouraging the public and football fans to vaccinate to at
least reach the government target of over 400 000 or 70 per cent people
vaccinated in order for fans to be allowed back to the stadium. The MTN Premier
League for the first time last season played its games behind closed doors.
When the campaign started last month, over 300 vaccinated in Manzini and about 1
000 took the jab in Nhlangano. The road show went to Buhleni and Pigg’s Peak
last week which brought the total number of vaccinated people to 2 500 during
the road-shows. The MTN Premier League is scheduled to kick-off on October 23
with the fans hoping those who have taken the jab might be allowed to attend the
matches. Premier League teams struggled financially last season without the
gate-takings contribution. However, there is a glimmer of hope as in South
Africa 2 000 fans were allowed to watch their national team, Bafana Bafana
playing Ethiopia on Tuesday in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
