Times Of Swaziland: BUSY MONTH FOR SWIMMERS BUSY MONTH FOR SWIMMERS ================================================================================ BY PHOLSILE HLOPHE on 13/10/2021 08:15:00 MBABANE – The Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) will have a busy schedule this month. According to the calendar released yesterday by ESA Secretary General Michelle Hoy, the calendar is subject to change and would be updated after the release of ESA’s national dates. The first event will be the age group gala to be held on October 23, at the Enjabulweni Primary School, Manzini. This will be the first competition for swimmers since April following government’s relaxation of COVID-19 protocols. Competitions will start at 8am. ESA President Herman Jele said some of the events, including a three-day first aid course was completed a fortnight ago in what was a successful event. He said the gala was open to swimmers of all age groups. Uniforms Instead of the CANA African Championships which were slatted to take place between October 11 and 17, the swimming squad would be competing in the Mpumalanga Age Group Gala in Nelspruit on October 15 and 16. “Our squad has been finalised and we are finishing up their uniforms because they will be representing the country and have to look the part,” Jele said. As prescribed in the calendar, the ESA will have a three-day virtual Zone VI Championship starting from October 29 to 31. The ESA president said the FINA Aquatics Day, which was projected for November 27, would be recoiled to October as they were planning to engage the four geographic regions of the country on open water sessions. “We are looking to engage a robust swimming schedule this October now that the government has eased up on the COVID-19 restrictions. We want to split the open water sessions across the four regions and engage children in water sessions. It’s going to be on a tight schedule,” Jele said. He further emphasised that the calendar events would be altered in due course.
