The former Liweseli physical trainer and Wanderers ladies team Izi girls assistant coach was spotted yesterday at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground, assessing trialists for the Motshane-based side’s women team. The 2020/21 MTN National First Division Champions are in a process of forming a women football team for the new season. It is within FIFA and CAF standards for a premier league team to have a women’s team as part of club licensing requirements. The teams Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stan Dlamini invited interested ladies from the ages of 15-25 for trial-outs which were conducted by Shongwe yesterday at Prince of Wales Sports Ground. represented Shongwe was part of Izi girls team that represented Eswatini in the 2021TOTALEnergies Women’s Champions League that was held in South Africa in August this year. He was the interim coach of the side after head coach Bongani Makhukhula did not make the trip to South Africa due to academic commitments. “After my contract expired at Wanderers I asked the team to give me their blessing to try other challenges outside them as a coach. I was given the blessing, that is why you found me here,” Shongwe said. He said when the team recruited him he was given the task to work with the men’s team as a physical trainer. “Today I was asked to help here as I have experience with working with ladies in football, my main role with the men’s team is to help them with the physical aspect of the game,” he said. He further said according to his understanding he would be deployed to work with the ladies once the team is formed.
