FIFA BACKS MOTSEPE FOR CAF

MBABANE – South Africa’s billionaire Patrice Motsepe is set for the
Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Presidency seat after the full backing of
FIFA.
The football mother body is reported to have requested the three candidates
going for the Presidential post to back the Mamelodi Sundowns Boss, Motsepe, in
the upcoming CAF presidential election to be held on March 12 in Morocco.
According to supersport.com, Augustin Senghor of Senegal and Ahmed Yahya of
Mauritania are open to the idea of backing Motsepe and becoming vice-presidents
themselves. Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast would be offered a role as advisor to
Motsepe. Motsepe travelled to Morocco over the weekend to conclude the
groundbreaking deal with Senghor and Yahya. “The CAF presidential candidates
have reached an agreement and with Motsepe’s competitors that they will be his
first and second vice-presidents. Motsepe is in Morocco concluding it. The deal
will complete an amazing journey for the Sundowns boss as few gave him a chance
when he embarked on the journey to assume the most powerful football seat on the
continent last year,” the source told supersport.com.
The country, through the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), gave support to
Motsepe and this was confirmed during the Council of Southern African Football
Association (COSAFA) annual general meeting (AMG) last month. EFA President Adam
‘Bomber’ Mthethwa was among the COSAFA members who attended the Motsepe’s
10-Point Action Plan Manifesto called ‘Building African Football to Be the
Best in the World’ launch last Thursday in South Africa. Also present were
Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Benin and Angola FA Presidents while Motsepe was
accompanied by SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordan, Minister of Sports, Arts and
Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, PSL Chair, Irvin Khoza and COSAFA President, Dr Phillip
Chiyangwa.
