Eswatini Olympics and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) outgoing President Peter Shongwe has confirmed his interest in retaining his position. Shongwe was nominated for the presidential seat together with long-serving Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mtsetfwa. The proposed date for the EOCGA’s elections is January 31, 2021, as announced by the association’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sydney Simelane, last week. “Yes, I will stand for the elections. I have been working with a dynamic team and we achieved most of our goals and projects. I have big future development plans for the association,” said Shongwe. Meanwhile, former boxing president Pearl Dlamini and Eswatini National Tennis Association’s (ENTA) President Maxwell Jele were nominated for vice presidency while Treasurer Zakhele Zulu has competition in Goodluck Gule. Some of Shongwe’s successes while in office include the allocation of land for ENTA to construct tennis courts as well as fencing the OlympAfrica Centre at Lobamba. “We worked very well with my team and managed to contain operation costs despite the challenges imposed by COVID-19. I am also happy to have hired a CEO who has worked in the sports industry and leading a board of professionals who are well-trained in corporate governance,” said Shongwe. The nominated members comprise Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini, Nhlanhla Maphanga, AE Public Relations Officer Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini, Muriel Hofer and Lee Ann Young.
