The team, through its official Facebook page, yesterday mourned the passing of their long-serving patron Mario Masuku. Just recently, the team lost former legend and goalkeeper Timer Mthembu, team doctor Mvumeni Khumalo and former General Manager Andrew Mamba, who also served as the first National Supporters’ Committee (NSC) chairman. “On behalf of the entire Mbabane Highlanders FC family, we are so saddened to announce the passing on of one of our own Mr Mario Masuku. One would recall, he played as a defender in our much loved team, went on to serve in several positions in our administration. He was also one of our patrons. “For the team, he served from the heart. We wish to send our sincere condolences to the Masuku family, his friends and the entire Mbabane Highlanders FC. Lala Ngekuthula Magebhula Lomnyama,” read the statement from Highlanders. Condolences Recently, Highlanders Patrons’ Secretary Musa Masuku, said the capital city giants expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire Mbabane Highlanders family. “We are shocked, devastated and short of words after what has befell us. As Mbabane Highlanders family, we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of the three officials who passed away suddenly,” said Masuku. The secretary continued to state that the trio had worked very hard for the ‘black and white’ outfit to be where it was now. “They all worked hard for us, dedicating their time and energy serving the team. on the other hand, Timer was the best goalkeeper in the country, while Mamba served as the first National Supporters Committee (NSC) chairperson before being appointed as the team general manager,” said Masuku. Meanwhile, on his demise, Mamba was recognised as one of the country most successful football legends as he was the first Sihlangu goalie when the team was assembled. Mthembu died on the morning of New Year’s Eve. He was said to have passed away while at his home around 9:30am and was taken to Mbabane Government Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival. He died from CO- VID-19- related complications. Mamba on the other hand, died as a result of an undisclosed illness.
