BANELE’S CONTRACT EXPIRES AT MBOMBELA CITY LADS

MBABANE – Former Manzini Wanderers goalkeeper Banele Dlamini is out of
contract at South Africa’s Mbombela City Lads.
Dlamini joined the ABC Motsepe League side at the beginning of the season and
his contract officially expired on July 31. Despite running out of contract at
the South Africa based team, Dlamini can pride himself that he got the necessary
game time. He was on the first eleven 21 times and managed to have nine clean
sheets.
Reached for comment, Dlamini confirmed that his contract had elapsed. “Yes, it
is true that my contract came to an end on July 31 officially. However, due to
the COVID-19 pandemic stalling the leagues, I have to at least finish the season
and then engage in talks with Mbombela City Lads management,” Dlamini said.
When asked if he was willing to extend his stay at City Lads, he said;
“I was happy at Mbombela City Lads but I feel I need to consider local offers.
My main concern is that chances of me playing in the national team are slim when
I am at City Lads. I need to play at least in the elite league of Eswatini to
attract PSL offers,” he said. He added that at some point he was given a
chance to try his luck at the University of Pretoria, but they could not sign
him because he did not have national team caps. Asked which team would he like
to join in Eswatini; he said. “Any team with a good offer my brother, I am
ready to leave my mark in the PLE. I want to go all the way up and earn myself a
national team call-up,” he said.
He disclosed that despite the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Glad Africa
Champions returning to action next week, the South Africa Football Association
(SAFA) has not given them an update on the return of the lower leagues.
City Lads are currently lying on the 12th spot in the 16-team-league log. The
2019/20 season was stalled in March with seven games to play.
