Head coach Sabelo Mnisi strongly believes that EFA should crown them champions if the season is cancelled. This is after the Sports Desk revealed that the current season would be cancelled by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA). The football mother body, it was reported by our sister newspaper, the Times SUNDAY, were still deliberating on issues of prize breakdown, Confederation of Africa (CAF) representatives, relegation and promotion. reviewed This decision will be made on August 20, where EFA executive members will meet to review the 2019/20 season. EFA CEO Frederick Mngometulu in previous interviews to the media has been adamant that the season would return when it is safe to do so. However, he hinted that their decision was not final as it would be reviewed based on the situation on the ground. The season was suspended by EFA through government directives on March 13. Buffaloes were currently the leaders with 43 points while Mbabane Swallows were second on 37 points. Mhlume Peacemakers were in position 13 while Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows were at the bottom of the 14-team-league with 11 points after 18 games. The season is eight games away from ending. Interestingly, Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi was quoted by the Times of Eswatini recently, saying that it would be a miracle if football resumed. According to Sunday COVID-19 statistics released by the Minister of Health, Lizzie Nkosi, the country has reported 43 deaths related to the coronavirus. There are 2 706 confirmed cases and there are 1 214 total recoveries. Mnisi said if the season does not resume, the EFA would have done justice if they were to crown the army side champions of the 2019/2020 season. “It will be good to continue with the season but if EFA decided to end it, they should crown us champions,” said Mnisi. When asked to justify why they should be crowned champions when the season is not over yet, he said; “We were in a better position to win it. A difference of eight points between us and our strong contenders Mbabane Swallows is just too much in the remaining eight games,” he added.
