For Eswatini sportspersons, they may heave a sigh of relief to learn that government has not yet received reports of people in sports who have contracted the virus that has already claimed the lives of at least 11 emaSwati. According to Director of Health Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr Vusi Magagula, there have been no reports of people in sports who have contracted the virus. The director was asked to shed light, as the infection curve keeps rising, if there was still no athlete or person in sports having been reported to have contracted the virus. “Not that we know of,” answered Magagula briefly, since he could not take calls because he was held up in meetings. Magagula was responding to a text message on whether there was a sportsperson who had tested positive for the coronavirus. When this report was compiled yesterday, the number of coronavirus cases stood at 795. Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa (CSA) revealed last Monday that seven people within the organisation had tested positive for coronavirus, raising questions over the sport’s potential return to action in the country. Sports 24, reported on Saturday that there were seven positive cases for coronavirus at four clubs as the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) prepared to re-start.
