Times Of Swaziland: ‘BULL’S PHILA HOME TRAINING AMBASSADOR ‘BULL’S PHILA HOME TRAINING AMBASSADOR ================================================================================ BY THEMBA ZWANE on 30/06/2020 00:23:00 MBABANE – The shot-stopper has taken charge in embracing home training. That is Mbabane Highlanders’ gifted goalkeeper Phila Mamba, who is among local sportspeople who conduct individual training. As one of the country’s best goalkeepers, he has surely led by example even in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. The country is currently in a partial lockdown as the government has joined the world in the fight to eliminate the coronavirus. Most gyms and training facilities are closed as per the government’s newly-implemented COVID-19 Regulations 2020. However, the ‘Black Bull’ player said this was no excuse not to keep training and said it was imperative for the nation to embrace home training at such time to keep fit and healthy. “It is important for emaSwati to keep fit at home so that they can keep their bodies in good shape and protect themselves from diseases,” said the player. The shot-stopper further emphasized on the importance of adhering to health experts’ safety precautions to eliminate COVID-19. “They should wash their hands often and avoid close contact,” he said. The coronavirus has put the sports world at a standstill across the country, forcing athletes of all ages to become innovative with their training methods, while not being able to practise or train together. However, the virus is not preventing players from the RGV FC Toros Youth Academy from virtually linking up with coaches and teammates through Zoom, a video-conferencing platform, and practising in the confines of their own home. Rafael ‘Rafita’ Soto, a 9-year-old goalkeeper who plays his club soccer with the RGV FC Toros Youth Academy, is glad he, his teammates and coaches are still able to see each other through a computer screen, but he still misses in-person practice sessions and game days.
