EFA PROPOSES  2 MONTHS TO  FINISH SEASON

MBABANE – The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) believes two-months will be
enough to conclude the 2019/2020 season.
The EFA Executive Committee met on Tuesday to deliberate on the plans for the
suspended 2019/2020 season, where a resolution was made to present a concise
plan to government through the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs on
how to conclude the season amid the coronavirus pandemic.
An informed source said one of the starting points would be to allow teams to
train in maximum groups of eight or 10 players and gradually increasing with key
precautionary measures as outlined by both government and the World Health
Organisation (WHO) being adhered to.
“The Executive Committee is proposing that teams may start training in groups
of eight or 1o at the end of June, but with strict adherence to the
precautionary measures of the coronavirus pandemic and then in July the football
season can start,” the source close to the matter said.
Tested
The football season was suspended indefinitely on March 13 for two months due to
the COVID-19 pandemic, which has already claimed 351  815 lives worldwide as of
yesterday. 5 626 047 have tested positive globally.
The source further stated that the ‘Restart the season plan’ is yet to be
scrutinised and approved by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs.
EFA Communications and Marketing Officer Muzi Radebe said the details of the EFA
ExCo would be released during a press conference scheduled for today at Sigwaca
House.
“I can confirm that indeed, the EFA Executive Committee had a meeting on
Tuesday, but the issues discussed and resolutions would be revealed to the media
during a press conference on Thursday (today). I am not in a position to divulge
anything at this point,” Radebe said.
One of the EFA affiliates, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), has been under
pressure from its members who want a decision taken promptly on the fate of the
suspended 2019/2020 season in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
