MBABANE – Footballers can learn a thing or two from former Moneni Pirates and
Manzini Sundowns (now Denver Sundowns) international goalkeeper Pride Zendera.
The Zimbabwean goalkeeper, who now plays for Chicken Inn in his home country,
has seen his life prosper having bought a new house in the suburbs of Harare.
Zendera’s football career came to life when he played in the country for
Moneni Pirates before joining Manzini Sundowns.
The 28-year-old was named the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup best goalkeeper when
he played for Manzini Sundowns (now Denver Sundowns).
According to the https://www.chronicle.co.zw, Zendera is now a now a proud owner
of a six-roomed house in Bulawayo’s high density suburb of Pelandaba West. The
player used his savings, while staying at his parents’ place in Tshabalala
together with his wife and their three-year-old son.
Lifestyle
He said he had to change his lifestyle while some footballers went for the
latest sneakers, phones and clothes. He said footballers can still realise their
dreams of owning property by using their savings wisely and he said there was a
need that players changed spending habits for them to benefit from their trade.
“I made the first instalment of the residential stand in 2015 and the full
payment was made later after the stands in the area were fully serviced in 2017.
It called for a lot of sacrifice and in March 2018, that is when the building
process started after I got my signing on fees from Chicken Inn FC. I added my
winning bonuses and salaries to push the project to roof level,” he said.
Chicken Inn Secretary-General Tavengwa Hara said it was pleasing that Zendera
had managed to provide shelter for his family using his savings from football.
“As a club that is what we encourage. We need to see more of our players using
their local monetary gains wisely. We have been experiencing hard times in the
local game, but it is good to note that at such a tender age, Zendera, with the
help of his wife, saw it fit to invest in such a valuable property,” he said.
Before joining Chicken Inn in 2014, Zendera played three seasons for Moneni
Pirates before joining Manzini Sundowns in 2012.
