Times Of Swaziland: COMPOSE A MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SONG, WIN E700 000 COMPOSE A MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SONG, WIN E700 000 ================================================================================ BY SABELO NDZINISA on 22/05/2020 00:44:00 MBABANE – Compose a song and stand a chance to win E700 000, courtesy of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns’ billionaire boss Patrice Motsepe. Interesting to note is that the E700 000 is E200 000 higher than the runners-up prize for the local MTN Premier League. Eswatini-born Kenneth Makhanya is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pretoria-based giants. According to a statement from the club, participants will be able to compose and produce songs in the 11 official languages of South Africa. The public will then vote for their favourite songs and the winning composers and producers will receive E20 000 in cash at the end of every month. This has been dubbed the ‘Mamelodi Sundowns 50 Year Anniversary Most Popular Songs Challenge’ and will be launched next month. The E700 000 is the grand prize but Sundowns have put up prizes for the seven most popular songs, which in total, add up to E2.1 million. This is basically the full prize money shared by the 14 teams in the local MTN Premier League in a season. The prize money for the seven most popular songs, as voted for by the public throughout the year, will be awarded at the Sundowns 50 Year Anniversary Banquet to be held in December 2020. Said the team’s President Motsepe: “The Mamelodi Sundowns 50 Year Anniversary Most Popular Songs Challenge enables us to continue promoting and supporting football and music, and what is exciting about this challenge is that it also specifically promotes African traditional and cultural music. The Mamelodi Sundowns 50 Year Anniversary Most Popular Songs Challenge seeks to involve and encourage the youth, football and music lovers in South Africa and on the continent, who are at home and while complying with the Covid-19 lockdown regulations to compose and produce songs in all the 11 official languages and which will be voted for by the public.” contributed Sundowns is part of the companies and organisations that are associated with the Motsepe family and that have contributed R1 billion to the fight against COVID-19. The soccer giants were supposed to play a match against one of the top European football clubs as part of the 50 Year Anniversary celebrations and because of the coronavirus pandemic, the match will not take place. According to the statement, the concept is designed on ‘reality show-type format’ where individuals register and participate in a national singing competition. Participants will have to provide some basic details, followed by the recording of a unique song. SABC Radio and TV as well as MTN have been identified as partners. “MTN has a long-standing relationship with Sundowns and we are delighted to be the technology partner for the Mamelodi Sundowns 50 Year Anniversary Most Popular Songs Challenge. MTN helps connect our customers to the people and things they love and we know that football remains a passion for so many across the nation. The legacy of Sundowns weaves a rich colour into the history of South African football and we are excited to be part of this challenge that will encourage creativity and a sense of fun from South Africans as we continue to fight this pandemic, together,” said Godfrey Motsa, CEO of MTN SA. “We hope friends and families will have lots of fun developing their songs and we look forward to providing the platforms on which they will be showcased.” said Motsa.
