Times Of Swaziland: HOME TRAINING WITH MOTHER, DAUGHTER HOME TRAINING WITH MOTHER, DAUGHTER ================================================================================ BY PHOLSILE HLOPHE on 27/03/2020 00:12:00 MBABANE – Train a child in such a way that when he is old, he will not depart from it. From raising a child to inculcating morals and values in them, mothers play a crucial role in their children’s future development. As the country goes on a 20-day partial lockdown due to the wide spreading coronavirus, a pandemic that has killed over 21 000 people globally, it is crucial to utilise this time to improve health and fitness and the best way to do that is in the comfort of your home. Ballet dancer and gymnast, nine-year old Basebahle Mabuza is making good use of her time as she joins her mother Khabo Mabuza during her home workout sessions with coach Bongani Mthupha. Her backyard is more than just a playground but a place she uses to keep fit while schools have been closed as she cannot go for training with her coaches and colleagues. If you are wondering what you can do with the 20 days of partial lockdown, this enthusiastic multi-sports lassie will inspire you to also find creative means of exercising within your compound. ballerina “I have to keep fit because I am a ballerina and gymnast. I love exercising with my mother because we laugh and bond while working on improving our fitness and health. I would like to encourage other children to make good use of their yard while we are out of school and staying home to be safe form coronavirus,” said Basebahle. The little girl’s mother said she was also working from home and had requested coach Mthupha to mentor her during her training. She said she felt the need to have a personal trainer’s guidance because he would help to push her harder even when she felt like giving up. “Our gym is closed and I am working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is very helpful and my child always joins me in doing certain exercises. Children copy what their parents do and if we practice living a healthy lifestyle, they too will do likewise. The same applies in taking the preventative measures to stop the spread of the deadly virus. When you sanitise your hands regularly they too will do so and we will be a happy and healthy family,” said Khabo. Exercise improves the immune system which helps to fight off viruses and keeps the body strong.
