MBABANE – After the Epilepsy Half Marathon was postponed, there lies
uncertainty if the organisation will host the annual Golf Day.
The Epilepsy Golf Day was set for July at the Mananga Golf Course but there is a
high possibility that it will not take place this year especially if the
coronavirus is not contained anytime soon.
Reached for comment, Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation (EEO) Mbusomuni Mahlalela
confirmed that they might not host the event this year.
“I do not want to totally commit myself on this but as things stand; it’s
hard to say that we will host the Epilepsy Golf Day.
This is so because we still have the Yellow Epilepsy Marathon which was set for
May 24. It has also been postponed due to the coronavirus threats. “We usually
host the golf day in July but there are a lot of events which might be shifted
to the July calendar especially if the situation normalises. It would then force
all events scheduled for July to be shifted further,” Mahlalela said.
Host
He said, however if the ban of all sporting codes is lifted earlier than
anticipated, they could be able to host the golf day.
“It will depend solely on government’ directive after maybe the virus has
been contained. Then we can host both our events.
Right now our focus will be on the Yellow Epilepsy Marathon. We need to ensure
that we do all we can to ensure that we host the race when we are given the
green light and then we can talk about whether it will be possible for us to
host the golf day,” he said.
Last year’s golf day which was the 8th edition was held at Mananga Golf Course
on July 27. Those in attendance were Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation National
Director Mbusomumi Mahlalela, Lidwala Insurance Company General Manager Alfred
Madondo, Senior Prince Sihlangusemphi, Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation Patron HRH
Prince Bandzile, Honourable Minister of Labour and Social Security Makhosi
Vilakati, Eswatini Epilepsy Chairman Majahonkhe Mngomezulu.
