EFA TO DECIDE PLE CHAIRMANSHIP, CONSTITUTION ISSUES

MBABANE – The amended Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) constitution will have
to get the blessing of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) executive
committee before it is adopted.
This means if the country’s football mother body decides not to endorse the
amended constitution, the current constitution will apply during the PLE Annual
General Meeting (AGM) where the elections of the new executive committee will be
topping the agenda. This would ultimately end the election hopes of some
officials especially those that were targeting nomination for chairmanship.
Position
It would also shut the doors on the election of a vice chairman, a new position
that is only provided for in the amended constitution.  The current constitution
is very strict when it comes to those that qualify to be nominated for
chairmanship as the requirement is that they should have served four years as
part of the executive committee in any of the EFA affiliates, not just in the
PLE Board of Governors. It is also worth mentioning that current PLE chairman
Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula sits in the EFA executive committee as vice chairman,
hence he will be part of those that will have a say on the approval of the
amended constitution.
At least six candidates have been identified for nomination by the Board of
Governors, some of which have not served the four years as per constitutional
requirement. They could find themselves out of the election race if the amended
constitution is not approved by the EFA executive committee. EFA’s Marketing
and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe was contacted for comment on this issue
but he asked to be contacted later as he was making some consultations on the
issue. However, at the time of going to press, he had not come back with a
response. Another interesting fact about the elections is that a number of top
football officials, some of which are in the EFA executive, qualify to contest
the PLE chairmanship and these include among others Manzini Sea Birds’ boss
Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, Comfort Shongwe and Sonnyboy Mabuza.
