Times Of Swaziland: 1 200 RUNNERS TARGET FOR LUBOMBO MARATHON 1 200 RUNNERS TARGET FOR LUBOMBO MARATHON ================================================================================ Ntokozo Magongo on 16/01/2020 08:05:00 MBABANE – The early bird catches the fattest worm. This idiom speaks to the first 500 runners to register for the Lubombo Marathon, as they will receive goodie bags. Registration for the marathon, to be hosted by TZD Sports, is open and it is E100 for each athlete and event. The marathon will be held in Siteki on March 28, starting at 6am and it comprises the 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km and 5km. The race was launched late last year in the presence of Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga. Registration can be done at Fitness Zone (Manzini), Siteki Hotel, Mr Matata Stores (Manzini, Matata, Pongola and Vryheid, South Africa) and Sneakers (Mbabane). The marathon slogan is ‘Take the Challenge’. To make the marathon special, there will be track events including 100m, 200m, 400m and relays. The race Public Relations Officer (PRO) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini confirmed this yesterday. He urged runners to register early for the race. He said they were still to add the registration venues for all runners around the country to be able to register. He said they were targeting about 1 200 runners to take part in the second edition of the road race. Last year, the event featured the 21.1km as the main event. For more information, runners can contact 7604 8762, 7902 0673 and 7613 7052. “We have interest from runners outside the country including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and Botswana. We are confident that as emaSwati we will come all out and dominate the visitors,” he said. There are prizes to be won by those to come first. Dlamini said the marathon would have 13 water points and they were still open to companies sponsoring the water points.
