Eddie Mkhonta is the undisputed champion of the Black Ball Singles League and the ultimate champion’s package of E3 500 cash prize plus a trophy and a gold medal awaits him. The league was sponsored by Solo Investments to the tune of E15 000 in cash prizes plus silverware. The prize presentation will be held at Manzini Pool Club on January 26, 2020. Starting time is 10am. The champion scored an unmatched 72 points earned in 30 matches. Dominance His dominance of the league was closely contested by national pool player Flag Nxumalo, who finished second with 69 points and is entitled to E2 000 plus a silver medal as his prize. Falling in third and fourth places were Sifiso Dlamini and Machawe Maseko, who scored 57 and 54 points correspondingly. One of the players will walk home empty handed as prizes have been reserved to 16th place. Positions three and four will get E1 500 and E1 400 in that order while positions five to eight will each pocket E1 000. The sum of E350 has been earmarked for positions nine to 12 and the last four winners will each get E300. Commenting ahead of the prize presentation, the champion expressed his excitement over the victory and highlighted that it was a tough competition which he managed to conquer through regular practice. Underestimate “I have managed to lead the charts all along and it was all through training. I have had intense and easy opponents but my winning strategy was never to underestimate any player but for maximum points at all times,” said Mkhonta. Meanwhile, Nxumalo admitted that the championship had slipped away from his hands and that Mkhonta was the deserving winner. He also congratulated him for the triumph and hoped for another exciting new season.
