‘SWAZI BOLT’ IN JAPAN

MBABANE – With the 2020 Olympics Games and the IAAF World Indoors
Championships on the horizon, the country sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’
Matsenjwa is off to Tokyo, Japan.
The 100m and 200m sprinters will spend two weeks training in Narita where he
will be preparing for the two mentioned events he is likely to compete in this
year. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) athlete left the country
yesterday.
The 18th World Athletics Indoor Championships will be held from 13th to 15th
March 2020 in Nanjing, China at the newly-built Nanjing’s Cube gymnasium at
the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park. Matsenjwa will not be competing for the
first time in this event.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games will be held from July 24th to August 9th in
Tokyo, Japan. Matsenjwa has already competed in two Olympics editions being the
2012 London Olympics Games and the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Games held in Brazil.
Matsenjwa will focus on the 60m that he may run in the World Indoors Champions
and the 100m, his focus for the Olympics Games.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to go to the camp ahead of the tough
schedule this year. I will spend the two-weeks there and leave on Monday
(yesterday) where I will be training giving focus on the 60m and the 100m,” he
said.
The trip and the camp in funded by the Olympic Committee and the Japan Athletics
Association of Federation. Matsenjwa is yet to attend the Olympics qualifiers
competitions, especially in neighboring country South Africa.
Other athletes who are also hopeful of making it to Japan for the Olympics Games
are the duo of 400m runner Andile Lusenga and sprinter Phumlile Ndzinisa.
Another Olympics-bound athlete, taekwondo artists Wandile Maziya, went to South
Korea late last year for a two-week camp also in preparations for the Olympics
Games qualifiers.
