She smashed Spence’s record of 5:45:07 minutes in the year 2000. Hoy, who bagged eight gold medals in the Mpumalanga Championships that ended on Sunday, also set a new record in the championships in the 50m butterfly stroke where she finished first with a time of 33:90 seconds. In second place was Cathrijn Davel on 38:74 seconds.
