MBABANE – She is sensational. That is shining 11-year-old Swim Lab swimmer
Hayley Hoy, who has broken a 19-year-old national record in the girls’ 11-12
400m freestyle. She clocked 05:27:35 minutes to set the new national record. She
smashed Spence’s record of 5:45:07 minutes in the year 2000.
Hoy, who bagged eight gold medals in the Mpumalanga Championships that ended on
Sunday, also set a new record in the championships in the 50m butterfly stroke
where she finished first with a time of 33:90 seconds. In second place was
Cathrijn Davel on 38:74 seconds.
Swim Lab Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi, who led the 15 swimmers to the three-day
competition, said Hoy’s performance was of high standard and she was improving
in every competition she was competing in.

“We are happy for her and she is really doing well. She was a joy to watch
during the competitions and winning eight gold medals from one event was not a
joke,” he said.
Swim Lab brought home 17 medals from the championships.

All swimmers made it to the finals in their events even though some did not get

he said.
