MBABANE – Professional golfer Nobuhle Dlamini is moving closer to the top 600
in the world.
Latest Women Golf World Rankings show that the Lobamba-born golfer is now ranked
631st out of 1 340 golfers. The standings were released on Monday (November 4). 
She has maintained her top five spot in Africa.
The ranking is based on the 27-year-old’s performance in 20 selected
tournaments, which include the top 15 finish in France over a month ago. The
best golfer in the world, according to the chart, is still Korea’s Jin-Young
Ko while  South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai is now the best female golfer in
Africa.
The standings, which are also known for sponsorship reasons as the Rolex
Rankings, were introduced in February 2006. They are sanctioned by eight
women’s golf tours. They include the Ladies European Tour, where Dlamini is
playing.
The rankings are based on performances over a two-year period. Players receive
points for each good finish on the relevant tours. The number of points
available in each event depends on the strength of the field.
The rankings are used by each of the sponsoring tours to determine eligibility
criteria for certain events. For example, 40 of the 144 places in the Women’s
British Open are currently awarded on the basis of the rankings—10 to LET
members and 30 to LPGA members.
In a recent reaction to the rankings, Dlamini had stressed on the need to reach
for the stars by becoming number one in Africa. Following a remarkable 2019,
Dlamini is back in Europe for the first time in over two years. She rubs
shoulders with ‘big guns’ from across the globe.
The next stop for Dlamini is at the Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de Espana at
Aloha Golf Club in Spain. It will be played between November 28 and December 1,
2019. She will fight for a share from a E4.9 million purse.
