Times Of Swaziland: DARING 1ST-TIMERS IN 180KM RACE DARING 1ST-TIMERS IN 180KM RACE ================================================================================ BY ASHMOND NZIMA on 12/10/2018 06:37:00 HAWANE – “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” This old adage by TS Eliot holds true for several cyclists who took to the trails for the three-stage Inyatsi Swazi Frontier for the first time. Yesterday marked the first 60km leg of the 180km course. Most of the cyclists who began their journey in the pairs’ race at Hawane Resort outside Mbabane yesterday, had never featured in the race. Stage one started at the resort situated over 10km from the capital city. The first stop was at Bulembu Country Lodge. One of the notable newcomers was Bradley Schroder from Johannesburg, South Africa, who said he was doing his first ever off-road race. He was parading fellow debutant Leanne Trollope in the mixed category. The duo’s team is styled Running Rhinos. “The goal is to finish. “We’re here to explore the picturesque scenery of Eswatini,” said Schroder. Mormond-sponsored local cyclists Chad Kelly and Clinton McNamara also featured in the race for the first time. The former said they trained hard for the event and last month’s 73km Swazi 3 Reserves MTB was part of the preparations. Leg two of the race will start this morning at Bulembu through to Pigg’s Peak Hotel. The final stage will be tomorrow from Pigg’s Peak Hotel to Maguga Lodge. The terrain is proving to be a favourite ‘hunting ground’ for visitors who have won in almost all the editions except in 2014. Sifiso Mhlanga and Sihawu Dlamini won gold four years ago. The race was launched in 2006. Winning in the past were year Leonardo and Lenus from Team Nkonyeni Pre-Cast, South Africa. The daring Retha Harding and Nadine Stein of Eswatini were ladies champions.
