Uganda defeated Eswatini Women National team, Sitsebe SaMhlekazi, in their opening match of the COSAFA Women’s Championship at Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Trailing 3-0 at half-time, it looked gloomy and bleak for Sitsebe but they came back a changed side in the second half. The game should have gone to the first half break 2-0, at least, but Uganda scored their third goal from a clear off-side position, a controversial goal that the referees allowed. Sitsebe barely tested Uganda’s goalkeeper, Ruth Aturo in the first half but started with intent in the second half, unfortunately their first attempt went just over the bar. The Crested Cranes goalkeeper had a tough time in the second half as her players chose to sit back with the wind out of their sail and it was not long before Sitsebe pulled one back through Tenanile Ngcamphalala. In the 77th minute, Celiwe Nkambule scored the second goal. In the 88th minute, they found their third goal which Ncamsile easily lobbed through Ruth Aturo after a counter attack, creating a tense finish-up. After the half hour Norah Alupo doubled Uganda’s lead. At the stroke of half-time, Resty Nanziri added Uganda’s third goal. In the 88th minute a penalty was awarded to Uganda after Mazwi Dube fouled Tracey Jones Akiror. Hasifan Nassuna scored the penalty from 12 yards, extending Uganda’s lead. Nassuna was named the player of the match. Uganda stands at the summit of Group C, while Sitsebe sits at the bottom.
