Times Of Swaziland: SUPERSTARS ARE TRADE FAIR CHAMPIONS SUPERSTARS ARE TRADE FAIR CHAMPIONS ================================================================================ Sanele Jele on 10/09/2018 08:49:00 MBABANE – They were simply the best. On paper, Manzini Steels looked a threat to their arch-rivals Superstars. Steels had masterminded their way to the finals having beaten defending champions Mbabane Jazz in the semi-finals. They won convincingly in the last four brushing Jazz 48-29 while Superstars beat Men’s Promotional league side, Chase Basketball. However, Steels were humbled by a hard working class of experienced and young players from Superstars. They lost 44-61 after a gruesome game played at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday night. In the ladies category SuperLadies beat Lady Jazz to claim the Population Services International (PSI) E15 000 sponsored cup. The champions received E2 750 while runners-up took home E1 750. In the individual categories, Superstars’ Sandlane Zwane was awarded as the most valuable player while in the ladies category; Superladies’ Philile Simelane also scooped the same award. They each received E500. When Superstars was reached for comment, Size Nxumalo said they knew that they would win the tournament. “We were disciplined and my players stuck to the plan. Our preparation before the tournament was on point and I guess it paid off. I want to thank the players for their good display through-out the tournament. Our biggest challenge is to win the league,” Nxumalo said. Meanwhile, Steels coach, Andile Thwala said the opponents deservedly won the trophy. “They were a better team and we have to give credit where it is due. However, we have the league to compete on, we can ratify our mistakes and boost our squad ahead of the second round,” Thwala said.
